UK Premiere and DVD Launch
Bleeding Poof is a dark, edgy short drama set in a not-so-idyllic community where filthy looks and cruel jibes have very shocking results. This latest project from Hereford's Rural Media Company brought together isolated lesbian, gay and bi-sexual young men and women in a film project that actively challenges homophobic prejudice and bullying.
Jonathan Charlesworth of EACH (Educational Action Challenging Homophobia) will introduce the film and launch the Sticks and Stones DVD. A documentary detailing the process behind the project will also be screened.

Screening of a collection of brilliant and audacious experimental films with an introduction by Darryl Georgiou who chose the films. 2008 marks the 30 year anniversary of the pioneering Video Art 78 exhibition at the Herbert Gallery in Coventry. While Kinopixel makes creative links between experimental film avant-gardes and contemporary arts practice, it avoids looking for a defining history, instead opening the visual content up to interpretation, free from narrative. Kinopixel is part of an on-going research and production programme with exhibitions at the Herbert Gallery and the V&A.

Heavy Metal in Baghdad (15)
Directors: Suroosh Alvi, Eddy Moretti
Starring: Acrassicauda
USA, 2007, 1 hour 24 minutes, subtitles
Heavy metal is rife with apocalyptic imagery. Still, it's a safe bet no one has ever faced the challenges endured by Iraq's only thrash-metal band Acrassicauda. They live in a world where death stalks the streets, chaos and mindless destruction is all around, but where Metallica T-shirts invite harassment, and head-banging is forbidden - supposedly for its resemblance to Jewish prayer. Following the band from the fall of Saddam to the present day as they struggle to keep their dream of heavy metal stardom alive, this poignant documentary explores what 'freedom of expression' really means. The killer is the band had more freedom to rock under Saddam than in the US-imposed 'democracy'.
